2007 Stokers and Captains

Our second big year saw the ranks of volunteers more than double. This is a healthy sign indicating a future of frequent, well run brevets with interesting routes. Remember, when these folks are supporting or organizing they're not riding. Not only are they not riding, they're taking time away from family or work. Thank them for their generosity.

2006 Heros

A year and a half ago there wasn't much randonneuring activity in Portland. People drove north to Seattle. Yes, there was an annual full series on the Portland Wheelmen calendar. Participation was low, the routes were stale. Then RUSA appointed Susan France as the Oregon RBA and all that changed. She recruited volunteers, researched routes, and did the volunteer work of a crowd on her own. As a result Oregon Randonneurs brevets are among the most ridden in the USA as measured by participant kilometers. We're at number six or seven out of the forty.

Susan couldn't do it by herself. John Kramer did as much work as some club RBAs in organizing a full series and scouting out permanent routes. There were many others who also pitched in to make things happen. Here are the people who worked with her to make the Oregon Randonneurs first year as an offical club a huge success.

The next time you see one of these folks contgratulate them, thank them and ask about what it's like to volunteer for this organization.
